Welcome to the Hive Encaustic. No bee suit required, though bee costumes are always encouraged.
The Hive is my art studio where I make things. The Hive Encaustic blog is where I ramble in the lush, captivating and sensual world of encaustics—the ancient art of painting with melted wax. My mission: to make visual art using one of the trickiest mediums ever devised by those tricksy ancient Greeks while not going broke. A further caveat—the art can’t be all bad. Some of it has to Show Improvement.
Since first starting this blog back in 2010, I have quit visual art, started again, quit forever darn it, and started again. In the two years I didn’t make art, many new encaustic tools and materials have come on the market. More artists than ever have heard the siren song of warm beeswax, and are out there making beautiful work. I’m hurrying to catch up!
